It’s a small fee to save a life!
Secondhand Hounds does charge an adoption fee to adopt a dog through our rescue. Unless otherwise stated, adoption fees are listed below and include age- appropriate distemper combo vaccinations, age-appropriate rabies vaccination, flea/tick preventative, microchip, deworming, and heartworm preventative (if over 6 months).
Adoption fees can be paid the following ways, but sales tax (7.25%) must be added to every adoption fee:
- Paypal
- Cash
- Cashier’s check (NO personal checks, please)
With your adoption, you received the following coupons!
- 15% off classes through Canine Coach (training school)
- 10% off grooming through Heidi’s Elite Grooming
- One free self service dog wash at Bubbly Paws
- 10% off any membership at Ruff House Indoor Dog Park
Please note that fees vary between $200-500, depending on medical costs for a specific dog. Please see your dog’s listing to find the appropriate adoption fee.

Please note – when you are submitting a payment via Paypal: Insert the dog’s name that you are applying for into the Comments field so we know which dog is being paid for. Thanks!
If you would like to pay via paypal and the specific price of the dog/cat you are adopting is not listed below or if the “Buy Now” button is not working, please send the payment to Rachel@SecondhandHounds.org at paypal.com.
Secondhand Hounds is no longer accepting personal checks as a form of payment for adoption fees. We accept adoption fee payments via paypal or cash or cashier’s check at the office before pick up during our office hours. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your cooperation!
