Please fill out the adoption application (below) if you would like to meet one of our Secondhand Hounds! This application is not binding, and it does not necessarily mean you will adopt the animal. The application shows you are interested in meeting the animal to decide if you would like to adopt.
Disclosure: MANY of our animals are mixed breeds. Our staff, the shelter staff they came from, and a veterinarian all might have different opinions on breed. We make our best guess, but we CANNOT make guarantees on breeds.
***Meeting one of our adoptable animals does not guarantee adoption. We often receive multiple applications for the same animal, and must make a determination on what home is best for each dog, cat, or critter. Unfortunately, this means that sometimes we have to turn down great people for adoption – please don’t take that personally!***
Secondhand Hounds does not adopt outside of the following state: MINNESOTA, IOWA, ILLINOIS, WISCONSIN, AND THE DAKOTAS! If we cannot locate a home visit volunteer in your area, then we are unable to approve your adoption request. We apologize for the inconvenience! For options close to your home, please visit Petfinder.com!
SECONDHAND HOUNDS DOES NOT ADOPT ANIMALS TO FAMILIES WHOSE CURRENT PETS ARE NOT UP TO DATE ON SHOTS OR UNALTERED. EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE FOR MEDICAL REASONS, AS STATED BY A VETERINARIAN. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING OUR MISSION TO REDUCE OVERPOPULATION.
CAT SPECIFIC ADOPTION INFORMATION Owned cats must have been tested for FIV/Feline Leukemia prior to adopting from Secondhand Hounds. Consignment Cats of Secondhand Hounds strongly discourages declawing cats. For more information on why we do not support this practice, please visit the following sites.
